Every time we move (I think we’ve moved about a 100 times in the past 5 years) I dream about how our next place will look filled with beautiful furniture and the radest decor I’ve always wanted to buy but never pulled the trigger. Of course this has never happened because, well, we’d need about $10,000 to make my dream decorated house come true (okay, a lot more than $10K). So, we end up with a house filled with Ikea furniture that 80% of the population our age also owns. But that’s okay, because there are so many ways to update Ikea products so that they are just as nice (sometimes nicer) as those pieces you’ve always wanted! Here are the 5 most stylish Ikea hacks on the internet today:

These plain white $5 cushions are super easy to add a design or some colour. I’ve seem similar shams go for $50 plus!! Sarah M Dorsey uses stencils, fabric paint, and fabric to update her Ikea cusions in this tutorial.  Shannon shows how she used acrylic paint to update her cushions on Burlap and Lace. I’m excited to try this out and I even have some different and rad ideas for these (sharpie? tie dye?)… I’ll keep you updated!

Screen shot 2014-09-10 at 7.35.05 AMThere are TONS of Rast Chest updates on the net today but this is my favourite! There are tons of tutorials showing how to update these boring dressers simply using paint and some brass hardware. Naomi from Design Manifest went for an Asian inspired look!Screen shot 2014-09-09 at 8.28.02 PMI might be obsessed with how this last project turned out. Jessica from The Aestate took a pair of Besta Storage units and made them into this amazing Gaultier inspired console. This one is a little more complicated than the others, but so worth her effort. Yes, I’m in love!

Which is your fave?
